Church History
East Star Baptist Church was originally built in the late 1900's at Brush Harbour. East Star's first spiritual leader was Rev. Ivory Brown. That first church building was blown away in a storm sometime in the 1930'S. Still under the leadership of Rev Ivory Brown, the second church (a modest wood frame buiding) was constructed later that same year. Rev. Jim Henderson was East Star's second Pastor. Third in line was Rev. C. E. Cable.
Rev. E. C. Cable was a elected Pastor sometime during the 1940's. He was a very spiritual man. With God's direction and annointing, Rev. Cable pastored East Star for over 30 years. Under his capable leadership East Star flourish. It was Rev. Cable who initiated a drive to rebuild East Star. As a result of his vision and fundrising efforts, East Star was eventually relocated to Tallulah, La (1971). Unfortunately, Rev. Cable was called home before seeing his dream fulfilled. The East Star church family was blessed to pay off the origianl 10 year mortgage in only seven years.
After the passing of Rev. Cable, Rev. Robert Allen and Rev. Crockett served as pastors of East Star. Over the years many great and yet humble men and women served in different capacities at East Star. This number includes faithful servants such as Deacon Tom and Mother Neppy Grimes, Deacons Coleman Blackmon, Issac Day, Albert Hall, Johnnie Dixon, James Ridley, Walter Claiborne, etc all of whom served, ministered to and acted as overseers of East Star. Decendants of these great men of God remain members of East Star to this day.
In 1994 Rev. David Brown, Jr was elected Pastor of East Star Baptist Church. Under Rev Brown's leadership the East Star church family succeeded in adding a ktchen and dining area to the origianl church building. This loan was paid in full in 1998. In July of 2010 the church mourned the passing of Rev David Brown, Jr.
On January 30, 2011 the East Star church family celebrated the installation of its present Pastor and First Lady - Tommy and Brenda Watson. Under Pastor Watson's guidance East Star has made tremendous strides in Kingdom Building. Going from worshiping one Sunday a month to gathering every Sunday to praise God, makes East Star one of only a hand full of "full service" churches in Tallulah. The weekly Bible Study Group has grown into four separate classes - toddlers, children, youth and adult classes. In addition, Pastor Watson has annoited the newly formed "Hospitality Ministry" whose duties include greeting everyone who enters the sanctuary, welcoming first time visitors and making everyone feel at home.
Under the capable and annointed leadership of Pastor Watson, the East Star church family looks forward to increased spiritual growth, abundant kingdom building and increased community involvement through the coming years.
